About New Audi A6 2019

The German automaker of luxury cars Audi presents the new A6 – the eighth generation of its full-size sedan. The model brings innovations in terms of digitization, comfort and sportiness. The suggested price is 58,050 euros. The Audi A6 follows the language pioneered in the A8 and A7 Sportback, with a body of stretched surfaces and sharp edges, resulting in an aspect of sporty elegance and high technology. The dimensions are 4,939 meters in length (7mm more than the predecessor). The width was increased by 12mm to 1,886 meters, while the height of 1,457 meters is now 2mm higher than the output model. The single-frame, wide, low-slope front grille, flat headlights and contoured air intakes bring a sporty look.

Dimensions

On the side features a sleek design and thin “C” column that characterizes the silhouette. The trunk lid is short. There is a chrome stripe that accentuates the three-dimensional sculpture of the rear and interconnects the lanterns.

Lighting systems

Audi provides headlights in three different versions. With the top-of-the-line version, the LED HD Matrix headlights come with five horizontal lines that form the signature of light. Optionally, the lighting signature of the taillights consists of a single horizontal line and nine vertical segments for each unit. The dynamic indicator is included in the high-end equipment 28ft limo cover.

Lightening Packages

Audi offers two different lighting packages for the interior: the ambient lighting package and the environmental lighting package. Both subtly animate space, volume and materials. Ambient lighting makes the panel and center console appear to float.

Interior

The interior of the new A6 features black panel – which expresses the technical competence and the digital character of the sedan. The infotainment has a top screen, which has a diagonal dimension of 10.1 inches if MMI navigation plus is specified. Parking Assistance Package

Depending on the version, the sensor set includes up to five radar sensors, five cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors and a laser scanner.

Smooth Hybrid Technology – All Electric Motors

All engines in the new A6 come with Audi’s new light hybrid technology. There is an alternator (BAS) that works together with a lithium-ion battery. With such a system, it can operate in coasting mode between 55 and 160 km / h. The start-stop function switches off the engine at 22 km / h. The engine is restarted according to the forecast as soon as the vehicle in front of the Audi A6 begins to move. In real-world driving, MHEV technology reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

Body and dimensions

The body of the Audi A6 has a drag coefficient of 0.24 (with an engine to be released later), keeping silent, even at high speed. A second factor is the high body rigidity – which has been enhanced based on mixed steel and aluminum construction on the body. Components such as the front suspension dome are made of aluminum, as are the doors, engine hood and trunk, and mudguards. The interior of the new Audi A6 is larger than in the current model. With regard to the legroom in the rear, it outperforms the current model and the main competitors, while the capacity of the trunk remains at 500 liters.

Four-wheel suspension and steering

The new Audi A6 features a dynamic steering system on all wheels. On the rear axle, the wheel can rotate up to 5 degrees. At low speed, the wheels are oriented in the opposite direction of the front wheels, thus increasing the agility of the A6 and reducing its turning circle up to 1.1 meters at 11.1 meters. At high speed, the wheels spin in the same direction, optimizing stability when traveling in a straight line or changing lanes.

Suspension

The Audi A6 offers four options for suspension: conventional steel spring suspension, sports suspension, suspension with electronic damper control and adaptive air suspension, also with controlled damping.

Drivetrain

At launch in European markets, the Audi A6 arrives with two engines: a diesel and a petrol. The gasoline unit is a TFSI V6 3.0L that accelerates it from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds, thanks to the power of 340 hp and 500 Nm; the electronically limited maximum speed is 250 km / h. The diesel is the 3.0 TDI with 286 hp and 620 Nm produces similar performance.

Tiptronic Transmission

DKW  achieved success as a manufacturer of motorcycles in 1922. Six years later, it  launched its first car . Audi  builds a  six-cylinder mechanics in 1923 . Four years later comes the eight-cylinder engine, associated with the Imperator model: it is not very successful, as the segment of luxury cars has begun its decline. In 1928,  JörgenSkafteRasmunssen, director of the DKW empire, bought Audi . Wanderer , with a  daily production of 25 vehicles , manufactures the Type W 10, equipped with a 1.5-liter engine and 30 HP. Finally, NSU interrupted its production of four-wheelers in 1929 to focus again on motorcycles.

On June 29, 1932, Audiwerke, Horschwerke and ZschopauerMotorenwerkeDKW  merged on the initiative of the State Bank of Saxony: Auto Union AG was born.  In addition, a purchase and lease agreement with Wanderer is closed to acquire its car division. Auto Union becomes the  second largest vehicle manufacturer in Germany  (one in four cars registered in the country in 1934 leaves its factories); its emblem, the four interlaced rings, symbolizes the indissoluble association of the founding companies.  The companies retain their name and each one specializes in a segment of the market: DKW produces motorcycles and small utilities, Wanderer builds medium-sized cars, Audi keeps medium-size luxury vehicles and Horch takes care of high-end cars. The Type 853 with eight-cylinder engine in line, considered the most beautiful Horch ever manufactured, appears in 1935.  Bernd Rosmeyer, official pilot of Auto Union,  exceeds for the first time in history the 400 km / h on a public highway : the event takes place during the Week of Speed, from October 25 to 29, 1937.

1941-1950

The end of the war

World War II ends and  Auto Union AG , which during the war had received orders to comply with official instructions (had to dedicate its production to military demands),  is expropriated by the Soviet occupation forces . The company’s top executives move to Bavaria:  on September 3, 1949, Ingolstadt hosted the founding of the new Auto Union GmbH.  In 1950 he began his activity in Dusseldorf.

1951-1960

The arrival of Daimler-Benz

The  DKW vehicles , with a two-stroke engine, are the  first to come out with the emblem of the four rings  of the assembly line of the new company. In 1954, Friedrich Flick, majority shareholder of the iron and steel company Eisenwerk-Gesellschaft, acquired a financial stake in Auto Union. Years later, it recommends its absorption by Daimler-Benz. Finally,  Daimler buys 88% of the shares on April 24, 1958. One year later, he controls 100%. On the other hand, NSU retakes, after a break of 30 years, the production of cars in its headquarters in Neckarsulm: the Frankfurt Motor Show attends the birth of the Prinz, a car with four seats. In 1957, the original Wankel propeller completes its first tests in the NSU engine bank.

1961-1970

The four-stroke engines … and Volkswagen

The last DKW with the two-stroke engine are produced.  From that moment, the models with four-stroke mechanics are built under the Audi brand, the name that the company adopts for its new stage. NSU Motorenwerke AG presents the Wankel Spider at the German Motor Show (1963), the first car in the world powered by a rotary piston engine manufactured in series.  In 1965 another Auto Union car arrived on the market, which had moved the manufacturing to Ingolstadt in 1961: it is the first vehicle that the company creates in the postwar period with a four-stroke engine. The Volkswagen Group acquires the corporation, which merges with NSU in 1969. This is how Audi NSU Auto Union AG was born. Between May of 1965 and July of 1969, almost 348,000 units of the mythical “Beetle” are assembled.
